You will notice that scripture plays a predominant role in my writing and in most of my local and online courses. My approach to scripture is unlike any you have likely experienced before! I do not approach scripture from a dogmatic or doctrinal perspective. Neither do I use it as a way to instill fear or manipulate specific actions or behaviors. Instead, I approach scripture as the ancients did – as a collection of stories which have the opportunity to reflect back to us aspects of ourselves. In this way, scripture becomes a vehicle through which our highest self can speak to us – providing guidance, support, inspiration, nourishment and even healing.
When we pierce through the veil of other people’s interpretations and allow the Divine to speak to us personally and directly through these ancient texts, we discover the transformational power of The Word as it was originally intended – as a tool to guide and sustain us on the path of love.
For 2000 years, scripture has been interpreted to meet the needs of a hierarchical/patriarchal institution with a specific political agenda. As a result, scripture has been used to justify all sorts of non-loving behaviors, even unspeakable acts of violence against those who cannot (in their good conscience) adhere to the institutional agenda. Many people have been directly harmed by this approach to scripture and have turned away from scripture, missing its original intention which is to be a key to unlock the door to our higher consciousness and to create a pathway through which we might have access to the wisdom and power of the Divine.
Scripture through the Eyes of the Magdalene frees scripture from its institutional, doctrinal and dogmatic constraints and restoring it to its rightful place as a beautiful piece of wisdom literature. When scripture is approached through the three-layer process of interpretation and then experienced through specific contemplative and creativity practices, it gives us access to our highest truths and guides us along the path of our highest good. This is the approached that the Magdalene learned through Jesus and which she then sought to share with others.
Each 90 minute live session will include:
A scripture reading.
A presentation on the reading’s historical/cultural background.
A contemplative or creative practice for use with that scripture.
Mary Magdalene is the only one identified to have completed the full course of Jesus’ teachings and was initiated as co-equal partner and Beloved with Christ. It was to Mary whom Jesus first revealed his resurrected/Christed Self and it was Mary he commissioned to share the good news with the other disciples and who he ordained to continue his work in his stead.
